What is an eSIM?

An eSIM is a technology that does not require a physical SIM card to be inserted into the mobile device. In practice, it's a chip embedded in a phone, tablet or watch that stores the operator's data and allows you to access the network. The eSIM offers quick and easy switching of operators and plans. They are extremely convenient for international travel and when using multiple packages on just one device. The eSIM will be emailed to you in the form of a QR code, from where you can scan the code and install the eSIM you have purchased.

Important: To install an eSIM card, you must have internet on your phone, no matter if it is mobile or WIFI. It is extremely important that when you install the eSIM, the internet connection is stable (not intermittent).

Does my phone support eSIM?

eSIM technology has advanced extremely rapidly in recent years. Consequently, most new phones support this technology. Here we have listed many of the phone brands that use it, but if your phone is not listed here, it does not mean it is not supported. The quickest way, if you are unsure, is to check and search for detailed information about your phone model.

What is an eSIM QR code?

The QR code contains information about the package (plan) you have purchased, network, operator, etc. Its purpose is to give the user access to download information about their plan to install on their phone. Also, if for some reason you cannot scan the QR code, you can perform the installation and activation manually. Important: The QR code can only be used once after it has been scanned. This code cannot be reused. This code cannot be transferred to another device or installed on the same device! Of course, if you have any questions, we are here to answer them.

How do I install an eSIM?

Installing an eSIM card is extremely easy. Follow the steps below or watch the video.

iOS

  1. Go to : Settings .
  2. Select: Cellular or Mobile Data.
  3. Select: Add eSIM.
  4. Select: Use QR code.
  5. Use your iPhone camera to scan the QR code and follow the instructions on the screen.
  6. After installation, depending on whether you want to use the plan immediately, leave the card on or off.
  7. Don't forget to turn off the option (Allow Cellular Data Switching) to avoid additional charges from your operator.
  8. After switch on the card, please ensure that you activate the Roaming option (Connect to data services when roaming). Go to the installed eSIM card and simply enable the checkbox.
  9. If you still have questions, watch this video.

  2. Select : Network and Internet.
  3. Select: SIM/s.
  4. Select: Add SIM.
  5. Select: Set up an eSIM.
  6. Scan the QR code and follow the steps on your phone.
  7. After installation, depending on whether you want to use the plan immediately, leave the card on or off.
  8. After switch on the card, please ensure that you activate the Roaming option (Connect to data services when roaming). Go to the installed eSIM card and simply enable the checkbox.
  9. If you still have questions, watch this video.

I already have an eSIM card installed on my phone, can I add another one?

Yes, of course.

Any phone that supports eSIM can store multiple profiles. So if you already have an eSIM plan installed, you can install others. BUT ONLY ONE OF THEM WILL BE ACTIVE. After the iPhone 13, Apple made it possible to run two eSIM profiles in parallel, and this is expected for Android soon.

For people who have a physical SIM card, it is no problem to use both in parallel.

When should I purchase a eSIM card?

That's up to you.

We recommend that you purchase the plan shortly before using it. Install it on your phone, BUT DO NOT ACTIVATE it (leave eSIM turned off after installation). Turn it on when you need it. That way you can make the most of the plan you have chosen.

When does the validity of the package start?

This depends on the package you choose. Some packages are activated as soon as the eSIM is installed, others as soon as you start using data. This is stated in the description of each plan.

Can I use the same eSIM plan in multiple countries or destinations?

Yes, of course. Most of the plans we offer are supported in more than one state, which means you can change locations and the plan will still work.

Do I get a phone number with calls and SMS?

Please refer to the product description of the plan.

There are generally three options, but we are constantly adding different plans, so it is best to check the plan description.

• Data-only plans

• Plans that come with a phone number and data (but no calls or SMS)

• Plans that come with a phone number and data with included minutes and SMS – be sure to check the package information to see what it includes.

With plans that include data, you can use any app to make calls or send SMS, such as WhatsApp, Viber, Skype, FB Messenger, etc.

IMPORTANT NOTE

When you purchase an eSIM with a phone number, it is not guaranteed that you can use that number to register on websites and apps.

Can I use HotSpot with my eSIM?

Yes, you can use HotSpot with your eSIM.

Simply activate your HotSpot and share your connection to a friend, family member etc.

Can I buy an eSIM for a friend or family member?

Of course you can purchase an eSIM for someone close to you. As long as their phone supports eSIM.  After purchasing the plan, you just need to send the QR code to his email.

If I use an eSIM, will my current SIM card still work?

Yes, most phones with an eSIM and a physical SIM support dual SIM simultaneous operation. So, you can manage and use both sim cards at the same time without a problem.

What are KYC and eKYC?

Some of our plans require a KYC (Know Your Customer) or eKYC (electronic Know Your Customer) procedure.

eKYC stands for electronic Know Your Customer – electronic identification and verification of customer identity. The procedure is quite simple: usually, you send a photo of your passport, or some operators send you an SMS with a link after installing the eSIM, and you just follow the steps. If you have any questions about this, please email us at info@handysim.com.
